Lady Hale appointed as President of Supreme Court (and other appointments)

First female President set to replace Lord Neuberger on his retirement in September 2017

  • Lady Hale has been appointed as the next President of the Supreme Court.

    She will become the first female head in September 2017 on the retirement of Lord Neuberger.

    She will be joined in the Supreme Court by another female family lawyer, Lady Justice Black, who is replacing Lord Toulson on the Supreme Court panel.  

    Also announced today are the appointments of seven Lords & Lady Justices of Appeal, among them Mr Justice Peter Jackson from the Family Division bench.
